Call for elections

February 21, 2017

TO: All Members

FROM: David Atkinson, President

SUBJECT: Call for Elections 2017

In accordance with the By-laws of the Association of Retirees, we call on all active members to vote to fill six vacant positions of the Board of Directors. As indicated in our memorandum of January 10, 2017, three executive positions are to be filled for two years: Vice-President, Deputy-Secretary, and Deputy-Treasurer; and 3 vacancies for Directors, also for a period of two years. Additionally, the Board of Directors proposes a change in the By-laws of the Association to ensure that two positions on the Board of Directors be filled by candidates who reside outside the United States. The first such candidates would be elected in 2018 and 2019.

1. The election of Directors will be carried out in accordance with the provisions of Article 8 of the By-laws and the Voting Rules and Regulations. Beginning last year, the Association implemented an electronic voting system. Those members who do not have a registered email with the Association, or who have requested to vote by paper ballot, will receive the electoral package by regular mail.

2. This electoral package contains: (1) instructions to vote; (2) background of the candidates; (3) the justification for the proposed amendment of the By-laws; and (4) the voting ballots.

3. The deadline to receive your electronic votes or the manila envelope containing the identification card and the envelope with the completed ballots is MONDAY APRIL 24, 2017, at 5:30 pm.

4. The Thirty-Seventh Annual Meeting of the Association will take place on THURSDAY APRIL 27, 2017, at 6:30 pm, at the Enrique V. Iglesias Auditorium located at 1330 New York Avenue, NW, Washington, DC. At this meeting, the results of the election will be announced.

I encourage the members of the Association to exercise their right to vote and make the necessary efforts to ensure that the respective documents reach the Association with the greatest anticipation possible.

Your participation is important to the Association.

Thank you.
