Although there is a Chapters Regulations, we summarize here some of the principal steps to form a Chapter.
The main requirement is to have a group of five retirees who meet periodically and who elect a Board of Directors to serve for two years with a minimum of a President, a Vice-President and a Secretary/ Treasurer in charge of organizing meetings and other activities of general interest. Local retirees can become members by paying one single quota of US$10.
The Association covers Chapters’ expenses for their activities up to the equivalent of half of the contribution from international members residing in that country. Nevertheless, on special occasions, the Board of Directors at headquarters can authorize a larger contribution. Generally, the Bank’s local Country Office also collaborates with the Chapters by providing conference rooms and other services such as computers, fax machines, telephone, etc.
The main function of the Chapter is to be the spokesperson before the Board of Directors of our Association in Washington by relating the problems that affect the retirees of that country such as the Medical Insurance Program and the Retirement Funds. Based on problems raised by some Chapters, it is now possible to submit the refunds for the medical insurance scanned directly to CIGNA, which saves time in its processing.
